Abstract: Ai tempi nostri una ragazza va a depositare la chiave dell'albergo in cui presumibilmente lavora sul monumento allo scrittore autore del celebre romanzo Grand Hotel Budapest. Un' analessi mostra lo scrittore all'interno di un documentario risalente al 1985 in cui racconta di come arrivò a scrivere il suo capolavoro. Con una nuova analessi siamo catapultati nel 1968, quando tra le montagne dell'immaginaria Repubblica di Zubrowka (nell'Europa orientale comunista) si trova il Grand Budapest Hotel, un albergo un tempo molto prestigioso e ora decaduto. Qui lo scrittore fa la conoscenza del padrone del Grand Budapest, un vecchio di nome Zero Moustafa. Questo lo invita a cena con la promessa di raccontargli la sua esperienza all'albergo prima di diventarne proprietario.
